5 Essential DIY Home Maintenance Tips to Look After Your House Stress-Free

Home maintenance is always an ongoing issue for owners, and you can often do a lot of this yourself. But, this can often be a relatively stressful experience when you’re not sure of what you’re doing. By using a few DIY home maintenance tips, however, you could make this noticeably less stressful.

Five of these could be worth starting off with because of the impact they’ll have on your DIY home maintenance as time goes on.

Stock Up on Essentials Ahead of Time

Most kinds of home maintenance involves a few tools and other supplies, so stocking up on these ahead of time can be great when you have somewhere to put them. You don’t even need to have too many of them on-hand. Most of what you need could be found on eFixings, for example, so getting them for when you need them shouldn’t be an issue.

Fill in Cracks in Hardwood Floors With Baby Powder

Cracks in hardwood floors happen in time, and many of these mightn’t be too much of an issue. The only major problem with these small cracks is they could start creating a noticeable noise as you walk past them. Putting some baby powder in here can be a great way to avoid this, especially if you put a little glue on top to seal it in.

Stop Floorboards Creaking with Screws

Speaking of floorboards, these can often start creaking as time goes on for multiple reasons, not just cracks. But, you don’t need to take the floor up just to fix that. It could be a whole lot easier. Nails are usually used to help with this, but a more long-term solution would be screws. They’re a lot less likely to loosen quickly, so you shouldn’t have to worry about creaking again anytime soon.

Use Dryer Sheets to Prep Baseboards

If you’re painting in a room that has baseboards, you’ll likely want to paint them, too, even if it’ll be a different colour. It’s worth making sure they’re as clean as possible before you paint. But, getting rid of the lint and dust might be an issue. Using dryer sheets gets rid of them and helps make sure the paint sticks properly once you do paint.

Catch Screws With a Rubber Band

There’ll be plenty of times when you’ll need to take screws out of walls, furniture, and other areas. You wouldn’t want these to get lost when you are. They’ll cause some pain if you step on them, and you could want to reuse them anyway. The trick to this is tying rubber bands to the screw heads so they don’t get damaged as you remove them, and they should be reusable.

With the right DIY home maintenance tips, looking after your house shouldn’t be nearly as stressful as you’d think. You’ll still have to put the time and elbow-grease into it, but there’s no reason why it should have to be overwhelming. You’ll have a nicer home without the stress before you know it.
