A Midsummer Night’s Clean

Whilst, technically, midsummer night has been and gone, we are clearly in the middle of a sizzling summer. It can be tempting to neglect the cleanliness, or at least the tidiness, of our homes due to living outside most of the time. However! it’s essential not to neglect the need for a midsummer clean as among other things it can help you keep cool during the heat that shows no signs of easing this summer.

Traditionally, of course, Spring is known as the time to have a big clean, but due to similarly freakish weather involving heavy snow in 2018, you perhaps didn’t get a chance to have a Spring as we know it.

So, if your house is in need of a Summer refresh, this brief guide will help you through the four stages of a deep clean:

STEP 1:  DECLUTTER

Many studies have linked having a tidy home with a tidy mind; making it scientifically proven that a cluttered house can contribute to a cluttered mind.  Similarly, once you have a streamlined home, you can then invest in carefully chosen items to spruce up your interior design and give your home the ‘wow factor’. For example, www.tapwarehouse.com have some great offers on swanky kitchen taps…but, don’t skip the ‘declutter’ stage because investing in such items whilst the house is cluttered is akin to putting makeup on a face covered with acne.

The all important first step of decluttering is at the base of any cleaning process.  Remember, you’re not focusing on what you let go, but you will end up with more appreciation for what remains.

STEP 2: GET ORGANISED

Now that you’ve decluttered your home, the next step is to get organised.  This step might take up a fair amount of time but the time investment will pay off as it will make your life a lot easier and less chaotic in the long term. Assign a home for every little thing and store items close to where you use them. Make it your mission to tidy as you go and return items to their homes after use. Your organised home is a constant work in progress but consistency is key.

STEP 3: CLEANSE

Cleaning your home can be cathartic as this process will cleanse the energy and emotion stored within your home which can be a very soothing experience.  In fact, at this stage the cleaning phase is probably the least arduous and time consuming of the four phases. You’ll be amazed at how easy it is to clean a tidy, organised home.

STEP 4: ENJOY

Don’t skip this step as it’s vital to revel in the benefits of your actions. It’s time to relax and reward yourself.  Start a morning routine where you have chance to enjoy your coffee in your revamped space. Or head to somewhere like www.lush.com for a well deserved bath bomb to enjoy in your new sparkling clean bathroom.

Cleaning really isn’t so much about the ACTUAL cleaning. As with many things, it’s all in the preparation. It’s worth remembering this if you have already invested in a cleaner – this alone won’t give you the home environment you desire. A clutterfree home really is the key to a calm, fresh feel.
